The situation
Blueback Global is an international employer-of-record. Their clients employ people across multiple countries, and Blueback handles the contracts, the payroll, and the compliance for each one. The complexity is structural: every country has different contract shapes, different payroll cycles, different reporting requirements, and the way clients communicated with Blueback was scattered across email, spreadsheets, and shared drives.
The brief was a single platform, called Aggie, that bridges Blueback and its clients. One place to manage every employee across every country, with the variability in contract shape and payroll mechanics handled as data rather than as a separate workflow per jurisdiction.
What we built
The engagement is an AI Product Engineering build that has continued since December 2020 on the Clutch record. Team composition started as one full-stack engineer, one UI designer, and one project manager; the platform has grown against ongoing client need.
Aggie handles employee management across countries with field structures that are flexible where they need to be (contract terms, benefits, local tax handling) and consistent where they should not vary (audit trails, document signatures, monthly process checks). Integration with existing client systems means employee data flows in rather than being re-entered.
The payroll engine runs monthly checks, surfaces discrepancies for review before disbursement, and triggers the document automation: generation, approval, and distribution of payroll documents to employees and clients. Client portals give Blueback's customers full visibility into their multi-country payroll without going through email.
Tech stack: Angular, Node.js, MySQL, Express, Knex.js, SendGrid for transactional email, Google Cloud Platform for infrastructure.
